I contacted my graphic designer and website developer and we are on a mission to create a better blog. One that highlights and showcases my photographs much better. Stay tuned - but in the mean time all sneaks from my photo shoots go on my Facebook page. Click HERE to see that page.

Hot off the press! Nicole Curtis the Rehab Addict from DIY Network and HGTV was asked to be featured in the October issue of Minneapolis St. Paul Home Magazine. I was honored as being selected to do the photographs for this feature. I am trying to get my hands on an issue of this magazine which comes out October 1st. This is an iPhone pic of the PDF they sent me. Stay turned. I am increadly happy about this step forward and that I was given the opportunity to help create this beautiful 4 page spread. So blessed.

<![CDATA[1 year old birthday cake smash Lake Nokomis ]]> http://arialphotogr.le2.getliveedit.com/Blog/2012/1-year-old-birthday-cake-smash-Lake-Nokomis-/
   By Lauren (0) Comments

One of my most common requests when asked to photograph a one year old - is a cake smash. Mom's love their little babies getting all messy and looking all cute fully covered in cake.

Some photographers who have studios have these as packages - me? I take advantage of many of Minneapolis's beautiful parks and its even better when there is a lake. Quick dunk in the water makes an easy clean up.

We had spent the first half of M's photoshoot running around chasing this active little girl. I was convinced that she was not going to be interested in her cake. No way would this little chica sit still and eat cake. Boy was I wrong! As soon as she realized what was going on and that it was OK to put her hands, feet etc. into the cake. She was all for it. But baby M's favorite part? Sharing cake with her dad. Photos of that coming next. So stinking cute.

So hey - enjoy this Saturday night - maybe we all should go get messy with a little cake on this beautiful night! You interested?
I will be the one covered in cake at the park ;-)

Till tomorrow,

<![CDATA[1 year old birthday session in the park with balloons]]> http://arialphotogr.le2.getliveedit.com/Blog/2012/1-year-old-birthday-session-in-the-park-with-balloons/
   By Lauren (0) Comments

So my great friend Jodi & her husband Jon are blessed to be the parents to this little beauty. Both mom and dad are very intelligent people and it is no shocker that their baby is growing up to already be a smart little cookie. Seriously - this chicka is only 1 years old and already knows some sign language and is able to tell mom her wants and needs.

Lets talk about a woman on the go! This baby was active - up down left right sidewise backwards - you name it!

So when Jodi came to me with the idea - inspired by Pinterest - and said lets do her one year photos outside with balloons and a cake smash. I was all for it - but baby M had her own agenda.

Her agenda was - I want to run, play, stand, move, watch the dogs, try to grab the dead fish on the grass, pull the grass and then run some more. She was a total hoot. Try telling a smart 1 year old - hey sit still with these balloons while I take your picture? Yah she was too smart for any trickery - haha. We were able to get this quick shot before she took off running away with the balloons up into the trees.

This little girl has a special place in dad's heart too - such a daddie's girl - I will share the whole session later - but the love she had for her daddy brought tears to my eyes as we were shooting them together. Love. Love. Love.

Jodi & Jon I can't wait to show you the rest of these amazing photos of your beautiful baby on the go!

<![CDATA[10 perfect fingers and 10 perfect toes]]> http://arialphotogr.le2.getliveedit.com/Blog/2012/10-perfect-fingers-and-10-perfect-toes/
   By Lauren (0) Comments

So seriously I need to get better at blogging. Blogging is great - its simple and it showcases the work I do instantly. People who follow blogs have heard this a million times - Today stikes the day I will blog more. Hahah. Here I do.

Most of you probably dont know that I do nearly 100% of my own website updates - I work with the talented Jon Ruprecht from Nock Design Group for my website framework and he is teaching me how to update it my self. He created thsi beauty and desiged my logo - and is working on an awesomly creative new brand for Ariel Photography that will be reveleaved soon! In the mean time.... trust me - this website is a work in progress! I thought I was a computer geek - but have realized I have tons to learn!

So onto my post today- I love this photo. Macro photography has become my most favorite part of photography. I am seriously obsessed with tiny little details. I want to see the tiny little finger nails, the little noses, the hair on their ears and the list could go on. Will this mom print these images? Maybe. But will she cherish the images of those tiny little toes and fingers later on when this little guy has gown up and those feet are now a size 10- absolutely.

Have a blessed rest of the day!

I have been photographing Nicole Curtis the Rehab Addict's projects for over a year now and recently, was asked to be the official photographer for Nicole Curtis Design. How could I pass up on such an amazing opportunity? Nicole is an absolute pleasure to work with and her support for my business has been outstanding.

Nicole put her heart into restoring the Minnehaha House, which was built in 1916.

<![CDATA[A modern twist on old Hollywood glamour | A inspiration shoot ]]> http://arialphotogr.le2.getliveedit.com/Blog/2012/A-modern-twist-on-old-Hollywood-glamour--A-inspiration-shoot-/
   By Lauren (0) Comments

Social media is amazing. This inspiration shoot all started with a random Facebook comment. One afternoon my husband and I were watching a show on the DIY Network called Rehab Addict. I realized that her Minnehaha House was here in Minneapolis. I found her Facebook fan page and sent her a message telling her how much I love the show and that I had an idea to create a conception shoot in her home. There is an episode where Nicole Curtis designs her dressing room to have an old classic Hollywood glamour feel to it. I thought it would be so fun to use her dressing room for a bridal suite. To my surprise – Nicole was interested in my vision and wanted to get our creative heads together.

I immediately called up Christina DeCuffa founder of the Blushing Room and pitched this idea to her and she was totally on board from practically the first minute and wanted to bring a modern twist to the Hollywood glamour idea.

Together with the talents of Christina DeCuffa from the Blushing Room, Ashley Fox Designs, Tasha Herrgott with Red Bird Hills, jewelry and accessories from Francesca’s Collections and modeling from Summer Michael from Wehmann Agency and Taylor Zeis we made this a reality.

Thank you THANK YOU, thank you to Christina, who founded The Blushing Room for her hard work, amazing design skills and fabulous vision for this day! She brought tons of her custom created dresses, full hair and makeup tools ready to make this day a success! Christina is one of the most creative ladies out there and if you need a custom wedding dress, hair/makeup then she is your gal! Check out her design process here. http://www.theblushingroom.com/home/the_process.php

Also a HUGE, thank you to Nicole Curtis for graciously letting me play dress up in her AMAZING home and working with me to make this idea work. One of the best parts what started as a simple Facebook post turned into a great friendship. Thanks Nicole for everything! :-)

<![CDATA[In Minnesota - you gotta just make it work. ]]> http://arialphotogr.le2.getliveedit.com/Blog/2011/In-Minnesota---you-gotta-just-make-it-work-/
   By Lauren (0) Comments

New goal - start blogging more....

Bottom line - kids will be kids! Family photos can be a challenge- especially with an active 1 year old and a 2 year old - throw in a blistering cold Minnesota day and you have a great potluck for photos. The original plan was for outdoor photos - but since it was freezing outside - we opted to check out the Como Zoo and Marjorie McNeely Conservatory in St. Paul, Minnesota.
http://www.comozooconservatory.org/

These two boys are hilarious and go a million miles and hour. Early on, we decided that "traditional" family photos were not going to work with these kiddos. They wanted to check out everything - run, touch, smell and play- so considering my motto for photography is - "Capturing Who You Are" - you get a real sense for the kid's personalities through casual candid photography.

Photo number 33 about sums up the photo shoot - gotta love the 1 shoe.....

My tips for successful kid candid shots - a good telephoto lens to not be in their face and just let them be kids - play, laugh, and have fun! These are the photos that the parents will saw - "aww that's so-and-so, you really captured their personality." Those are the photos they will remember.

My last tip - for getting good family shots. The parents wanted at least 1 great family photo - and after many attempts of making it work, hands in mouth, crying, looking away, the kids wanted nothing to do with it. So my tip is: the parents were holding the kids away from me - and we counted - "1, 2, 3" - then they quickly turned around and had no time to freak out - haha and it worked! :-)

Josephine found me through the Warrior Dash. First let me do a quick shout out to her for rocking the Warrior Dash -check it out here: http://warriordash.com/ - and they are coming back to MN in 2012!! She rocks!

The photos really do speak for themselves - she has two of the most beautiful kids I have seen. They were troopers on this cloudy fall day - and especially when it started to rain and then downpour. We were able to snap out a bunch of great shots before being totally rained out.

Enjoy!

<![CDATA[Boudoir photography as a present for your special someone!]]> http://arialphotogr.le2.getliveedit.com/Blog/2011/Boudoir-photography-as-a-present-for-your-special-someone/
   By Lauren (1) Comments

I have been taking boudoir photographs for a while now - I strongly respect the wishes of my clients to keep their images private - here are a few that she said I could share. It takes a lot of guts to do the session to begin with and then to have them on the internet! This session was HOT. She was about to get married and wanted to surprise her husband to be with something totally out of her normal. Then surprise him with a custom album - SURPRISE!

If this is something you are interested in doing - here is a run down of how it works. All shoots are on location - at your home or in a luxury hotel room. I strongly recommend you get your hair and makeup professionally done. For this shoot we used on location professional make up artist Brooke Fleetwood - you can find more about her at http://www.brookefleetwood.com - she makes a woman GORGEOUS and confident! Sometimes a little wine and laughter is involved to help ease nerves.

Boudoir photography doesn't need to be only for weddings - my clients have also included showing off fitness bodies, post-baby transformations, maternity, cancer remission, valentines day, birthdays, or I have worked really hard to get into shape and wanna showcase it now! The common theme is that its empowering!

The package comes with a CD of the fully edited images - but most clients want help with printing or making private photo albums. Plus how awkward would it be to go in and print these at Walmart - blech.

Then you surprise your special someone with something he/she will never forget!! ;-)

Alison has been a very good friend of mine for 7 years. We were college roommates and have remained close ever since. She recently moved to South Dakota with her husband and 2 weeks ago today she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl - Harper Rose. My husband & I had the pleasure of taking a road trip to South Dakota to meet this little beaty. Alison spent the last 4 months of her pregnany collecting fun items for our photoshoot and was most excited about finding the antique scale. Alison you are so creative and thank you for asking me to photograph your beautiful family! Enjoy!

Had to do it shortly after to keep the beautiful flowers around! Here are some sneak peaks of Nolan - thanks Veronica for letting me take photos again of your beautiful boy!
